What Have we Been up to This Week

This week, our topic has been Our Bodies and Our Senses, and we have had a wonderful time learning, exploring and getting stuck into lots of exciting activities!

Monday – Our Bodies

We began the week by learning about our different body parts and talking about how our hearts work. The children had great fun running around and then feeling their hearts beating faster! We also talked about healthy foods and why it is important to look after our bodies and keep ourselves healthy. To finish the day, the children sat opposite a friend and had a go at drawing portraits of each other, carefully looking at their friends’ features.

Tuesday – Our Senses

On Tuesday, we explored our five senses through a very messy and exciting sensory walk! We experienced lots of different textures, including things that were squishy, crispy, smooth and hard. We used our sense of smell to identify chocolate powder, cinnamon, coconut and mint. We also used our eyes to carefully search for hidden objects during a fun game of hide and seek.

Wednesday – Nature

Wednesday was all about nature. We explored forest- and ocean-themed tuff trays and talked about what we can find in the natural world, including trees, birds, leaves and the sea. The children enjoyed investigating natural objects such as seashells, conkers, pinecones and rocks, using their senses to explore and describe what they found.

Thursday – Outdoor Learning

For our outdoor learning day, we finished making our hedgehogs and houses and created beautiful conker ribbons. We then took our ribbons on a walk down to the village green, where we tied them up and watched them dance in the breeze! We had lots of fun running around, exploring outdoors and even rolling down the hills. What a wonderful day!

Friday - Light, Dark & Baking

On Friday, we will be exploring the exciting world of light and dark. We will also be getting our bake on and enjoying some baking fun together!

What a busy and exciting week of learning, exploring and discovering! 🌈

Today & Tomorrow – NSPCC Talk PANTS

Today and tomorrow, we are also focusing on the NSPCC Talk PANTS message, helping the children to develop an age-appropriate understanding of privacy, personal boundaries and keeping their bodies safe.

We have watched the Pantosaurus video today and will watch it again tomorrow to help reinforce these important messages. We are talking with the children about how their private parts belong to them, that they should say “No”if someone asks to see or touch their private parts, and that they should always tell a trusted adult if something makes them feel uncomfortable, worried or unsure.

We are keeping these conversations simple, positive and appropriate for the children’s age, helping them to understand that their bodies belong to them and they can always speak to a trusted adult. 💛

Have a great weekend everyone!
