What Have we Been up to This Week
What a busy and exciting week we’ve had at preschool! Our learning has taken us on a wonderful journey through farm animals, scarecrows, seeds, plants and autumn.
🐄 Monday – We began our week learning all about farm animals. We talked about the different animals that live on a farm and discovered the names of their babies. We also explored what farm animals produce that we eat and drink. The children had lots of fun making homemade butter, which we then enjoyed spreading onto crackers — delicious! We also got creative making some fantastic farm animal pictures.
🌾 Tuesday – Tuesday was all about scarecrows! We learnt about why farmers use scarecrows and how they help to protect crops. The children had lots of fun learning and performing a scarecrow dance, as well as making scarecrow faces and creating their own scarecrow pictures.
🌻 Wednesday – On Wednesday, we explored the wonderful world of nuts and seeds. We talked about how we plant seeds and what they need to help them grow. We had lots of fun exploring the inside of pumpkins and even made pumpkin seed gloop!
We looked closely at sunflowers and discovered the different parts of the plant. We also explored a variety of vegetables, talked about where they grow and learnt how to look after them. The children then created some beautiful seed pictures to take home.
🍂 Thursday – Thursday was our Outdoor Learning Day, and we had lots of fun making our very own scarecrow! We’re going to place him in our garden to help protect our plants as they grow.
We also went on an epic bug hunt and discovered lots of creepy crawlies hiding in our outdoor environment. The children loved searching, spotting and talking about the different bugs they found!
🍁 Friday – On Friday, we’ll be learning all about autumn weather and talking about how the weather changes as the seasons change. We’ll be exploring all things autumn, from conkers and colourful, changing leaves to the clothes we need to wear as the weather gets cooler.
🔤 Phonics
This week in phonics, we’ve been learning the letter sound “i”. The children enjoyed thinking of things that begin with the “i” sound, singing songs and getting creative making igloo pictures.
⚽ PE
In PE this week, we continued developing our ball skills, but this time we focused on using our feet. The children practised kicking balls under an arch and worked on their coordination by guiding a ball around cones. They did a fantastic job!
Have a great weekend everyone!
